Mac5Bikes G-Tour Omnium - August 22nd - 23rd, 2009

Good hard weekend of racing that brought on a Road Race on Saturday, followed by a morning TT and Criterium on Sunday.

In the 5's Jason put in a good effort on Saturday that saw him taking 3rd place in the first stage of the Omnium, while picking up KOM and Sprint points to help place him in 3rd coming into Sunday's TT and Crit events. After the morning TT, Jason moved into a tie for second place on GC with one event to go. Sunday also saw Chad Day in action for the TT and Crit. Not in contention for GC after not being able to make the 40+ mile road race the day before, Chad assumed the role of Domestique for SBR in the 5's race to help Jason pick up key sprint points and watching any threatening moves in the pack. With Chad there to back him up, Jason made sure he picked up as many sprint preems and in the end Jason took a commanding win on the slight uphill sprint finish to guarantee him 1st overall in GC for the entire weekend. Chad did a great job of supporting Jason with smart, hard racing. Congrats to Jason and Chad!

The 4's weekend was also a hard fought battle, as the Saturday road race brought on 56 miles of attacks and breaks. After lighting every match Rick had in his book with numerous attacks and breaks with other riders, the final lap saw a three man break gain almost 16 seconds on the field with Rick in the break. With the last hill before the finish, the three man breakaways legs began to betray them and coming into the finish, Rick finished 5th overall for the day. Sunday's TT was punishment on the legs as well, as the legs were not fully recovered from the day before. After the TT, Rick had dropped to 6th with 5 other riders within a point of each other for the 5th place, which was the last prize payout spot. In the Crit, Rick picked up crucial points in the first sprint preem and continued to ride hard. Coming into the last lap, there were a few riders that were threats to final points and Rick was able to beat them to the line. In the end he regained 5th overall on GC for the weekend.

Good job to all those who raced this weekend and our rider to be named, who is techincally riding for another team untill the transfer season :)
