Past Week in Review - Bristol Road Race & G-Tour

Another week has come and gone! To start the recap, we need to look at last weekends Bristol Road Race.  Great race run by team Nalgene from start to finish.  The weather on the other hand was less then desireable.  With winds at a steady 30+ MPH, it reduced the size of the pelotons in each category as the day went on.  In the Cat 5's field, we had Jason in the 30+ field and Chad and the Junior Stefan in the 29 and under 5's. Stefan was racing in the Junior category, but started with the 5's.

Both Jason and Stefan had tough competition.  Jason went against some guy that won a 5's race at Battenkill and did the same thing at Bristol.  Jason was still using Chad's old bike as the Felt was getting built again after getting hit by a car a few weeks back.  Never the less, Jason battled well and came in 2nd against a very tough competitor.  Stefan too had a strong rider he was up against, as there was this kid from Canada that looks to have had some great success in bike racing already and spent the whole winter racing track.  The Canadian kid not only won the Juniors race, but he beat the 29 and under 5's field that they started with.  Stefan did a great job to take second on the day and keeps racking up podiums in the Junior fields.  Chad took 4th place on the day and admitted that maybe he went a little to hard the prior Thursday night during the G-Tour course at Rush.

In the 4's, it was a different story.  Phil was off to a great start as he was with the lead group going up Egypt hill on the first lap.  Unfortuneately, he flatted!  Rick rolled up to see Phil on the side of the road and realized that we had no chance at a top ten finish at that point and helped Phil and rode back down to the start/finish to call it a day.  Marty was still in the race, but was just behind.  Marty finished the race, so that was small victory considering the windy conditions that felt like we were racing in a tornado at times.

In the Cat 3's Adam rode a strong race and was just out of the top ten and lead group, but looked great in a sprint finish against a smaller group of 3's that came after the lead group.  Considering how Adam is probably not much heavier then a 100 pounds by the looks of it, he battled through the wind as well! Adam finished 11th and was so close to top ten in the 3's race.  Nice job by all the guys that raced, as it was easier to stay home that day, but with a race in our own backyard every team in GVCC should be out participating with as many riders as they can.

G-TOUR, South Parish Course - To see the great recap of the nights "events", check out TLV's website recap here for the action in the B4's race: www.twinlinevelo.com.  In the B5's it was another week with the same result. 1, 2, 3 for our 5's or as the B5 Blog puts it, SBR Domination: gvccb5.blogspot.com
